Afghan Boy, Pastel, 18"x24", 3/2005
Many years ago, I came across a book called Portraits. It showcased some of the famous portrait photographer Steve McCurry's best work. (He was the photographer
who took the famous photo of the green-eyed Afghan girl for the "National Geographic".) I was touched by many images in the book and felt compelled to turn a few
of the photos into paintings. Here is a painting based on the Afghan Boy photo in Steve McCurry's Portraits. I now no longer paint based on other people's photos.
I now paint portraits only from photos I took as I consider photo taking as part of my creative process.
